The making of plankton cyanotypes

A sneak peek into the process of making cyanotypes of the invisible plankton (Adrift series). From sea sampling to lab scanning electron microcopy (SEM) imaging, to cleaning the image and preparing the negative, up to the sun exposure and water revelation of the photogram.

Illustrated here are samples taken at sea aboard the Neomysis (CNRS), off the coast of Roscoff, prepared and fixed for the scanning electron microscope by F. Le Gall, at the Station Biologique de Roscoff (CNRS), France.
